Product Description

When driving rally of drifting simulations, accurate control over your handbrake is a must for full vehicle control. Heusinkveld Engineering presents a high-quality handbrake using load cell technology, resulting in a brake that offers a firm, progressive feel with full analog output.

Engineering

The Sim Handbrake features a strong, stiff, compact and durable design made out of stainless steel. The handbrake system has an adjustable lever, allowing the lever to be tilted 120 degrees in infinite adjustable steps in order to offer maximum flexibility. The lever features a soft grip at the end.

The handbrake can detect forces of up to 17kgs (measured at the soft grip at the lever) and features an overload protection. The load cell is (indirectly) activated by a rubber, which gives the handbrake a firm and progressive feel. The handbrake comes with 2 types of rubber, so the feel of the handbrake can be adjusted.

Suitable Simulations

This handbrake will be an excellent piece of kit for all simulation software which allow the use of an analogue handbrake. Please be aware that not all simulation software do in fact support a fully analogue handbrake. Please refer to the documentation of the simulator software to see if an analogue handbrake is supported.

Simulators known to support an analogue handbrake are:

  • Richard Burns Rally
  • Live for Speed
  • Automobilista
  • Dirt Rally

Controller options

The handbrake comes with a USB controller box (with on-board load cell amp and USB connector). This controller board supports analogue output only (in which it acts as an analogue axis). The wires of the handbrake can be connected to the controller board using screw terminals.

In addition to the load-cell from the handbrake, the controller board also has pins for 7 analog inputs with 12-bit (4096 steps) resolution each as well as 12 button inputs.

    (verified owner):

Coming from a really cheap Chinese hall sensor handbrake I actually didn’t like this thing at first. I switched the green rubber out for the white one before even setting it up.

Glad I did.. my rig flexes with this, however after giving it a really good tightening the flex is reduced ten-fold. Now it is very usable with only minor flex.

The green rubber would be insane I think. I bought this as one of my things I do to pass the time is hop in my simrig and drift in BeamNG.Drive.. after getting used to this I love how compact it’s form factor is and it’s solid.. it doesn’t feel like it’ll fall apart.. ever.

Much more progressive but can feel a little numb.. once you get used to it though it’s a much better feel. It does make me wish I got a P1-X Aluminum Profile rig though.

I also put a handbrake cover over the rubber, it’s hard to get on but it certainly provides an even nicer feel and look.. it’s eye catching and I think anyone who enjoys just driving cars in sim off and on track.. or likes rally and drift discipline will enjoy something like this.

Really easy to put your own touch on a handbrake and make a rig feel a little less cold and a little more you.
